Join the IDF
The Full Guide: Joining the IDF
Mitgaisim' website'
How do I start?
New immigrants interested in joining the army at ages 18-22 who’s parents are immigrants and might be listed, must go to one of the Recruitment Bureaus and settle their status at any time from 8:30-17:00.
If you are a new immigrant, you need to send a request to open a ‘Reshuma’ - a military profile. The request is in a Wiz document and you must fill it out in Hebrew! Not good at reading\writing in Hebrew? You can ask a friend\family member\teacher to help you fill out the Reshuma or contact our service center for new immigrants via whatsapp: 0529458579
What can I do to stay updated and recruit in the best way possible?
After sending the military profile, there will be a waiting period until your Reshuma will be opened and examined, you can stay updated by contacting the service center for new immigrants via Whatsapp: 0529458579. You can also stay updated through the ‘Mitgaisim’ website in your personal area.
Military profiles will automatically open for immigrants who have taken a certain period of time to adapt in the new country which is called a year of stay - we recommend doing so very much! You have the chance to experience Israel and get to know it’s language, culture, and society, which in the end will soften your adaptation to the IDF.
If you know someone who already served in the IDF, we recommend you to ask as many questions about the army (especially during your year of stay) and get advice so you can feel as ready as possible for your recruitment process, your draft and your military service.
How do I fill out the Reshuma?
- The document needs to be filled out in Hebrew.
- Make sure your writing is readable and clear.
- You will be asked to insert an address
- put the most permanent address you have\will have during your recruitment process. For example, if you’re currently in an ‘Ulpan’ and close to the end of the course, but you’re designated to move to south Israel - we would recommend putting your address in south Israel. That way, you will be able to stay at the same Recruitment Bureau through the whole procedure smoothly.
- The IDF is familiar with your address written in the Ministry of the Interior, so make sure the address is updated there too!
Does my age matter when joining the army?
If you are older than 22 years old, you are required to fill out a personal request and you will be summoned to the Recruitment Bureau for an interview in order to see if you’re suitable for a military service. Pay attention: you may also pass an interview if you're younger than 22 years old. Your duration of service will be determined by your age of arrival in Israel, you can find all the information in the following article. After your interview, it will be decided if you are able to volunteer to the IDF.
Heads up! After you have drafted and officially joined the army, your status won’t be a volunteer - you will be considered a regular soldier and will be required to complete the duration of service that has been determined.
When your Reshuma has been opened and approved in the Recruitment Bureau, you will receive your first summon - your Tzav Rishon, and you can finally begin your recruitment process!
We wish you good luck and have a pleasant enlistment!
