Sunglasses - Allowed or forbidden? What are the standard nail polish colors in the IDF? Is it true what they say about headphones? In preparation for your recruitment day, we have gathered all of your most frequently asked questions about the military's dress code. Here's everything you need to know>

Nail polish

The allowed nail polish colors are pearl white, light pink, transparent and French. In general, there are various shades in these colors that are authorized. However - the color must not look accentuated, shiny, with glitter and with sealed layers. Those how are in Keva (military career term) are allowed to wear additional colors, but until then, you've got time.

Jewelry

We won't leave you wondering for too long- women are allowed to wear one watch and one bracelet only, no matter what kind, as long as they are made of metal and don't have dangling straps. Men will have to settle for only a watch.

Women during their duty service are allowed to wear one earring on each ear, close to the earlobe - which does not stand out or extend the boundaries of the ear. There is no limitation on colors, however, earrings that are not in the earlobe are forbidden, such as helix, piercing, etc. Men are not allowed to wear any kind of earrings.

And what about rings? women can wear up to 2 rings on their fingers; you are allowed to wear an additional wedding ring if you are married. Male soldiers are allowed to wear only a wedding ring.

Headphones

No matter how bored you get - It is forbidden to be in motion with two headphones on, which makes the "bow" headphones forbidden. You are allowed to walk with just one small earphone in your ear for the purpose of talking. What is the reason you ask? When you are walking in a place with your uniform you can become a target, therefore you must stay alert to your environment.

T-shirt underneath the "Medei alef" uniform

Let's make it simple - either white or olive green. That’s it. Soldiers serving in mandatory service wearing Medei alef (ceremonial uniform) are permitted to wear underneath their Medei alef a tank top or t-shirt - long or short, only in the plain colors of olive green and white. You can also be without a shirt under the uniform. Enlisted in the Air Force or Navy? Because of your different uniform color, you will have to settle for white shirts only.

Socks

Soldiers may wear plain gray or plain black socks only. What about white socks? Only women are allowed to wear white socks with low shoes only.

Sunglasses

The truth is; there are no limitations on sunglasses. Many believe that there are certain restrictions in the laws about sunglasses or even regular eyeglasses but in fact, you may wear what kind, color and size you want.

Makeup

And what about makeup you ask? Contrary to popular belief, there is no restriction on makeup in the IDF.

All about the hair

Male soldiers must have short hair without layering and with an even length hair. Female soldiers do not have a restriction on the length of hair; however female soldiers with hair that descends past the collar of the uniform shirt (for example A-line bob hairstyle) must have their hair tied back via a ponytail (with a black or brown rubber band only) or a "Banana" hair Clip (Black or brown) or braided. Female soldiers are allowed to dye (color) their hair only in natural tones that integrate together.

Please take notice: The military's dress code may be updated from time to time in accordance to the decision made by the Aka department responsible for the appearance and dress code.
